Almost 200 people detained at protests in Belarus

In Belarus, 195 people were detained during Sunday’s protests, the Viasna human rights center reported. The actions were held in Minsk, Gomel, Vitebsk, Svetlogorsk and other cities. According to media estimates, several tens of thousands of people took part in the march in the capital.
According to human rights activists, more than 60 people were detained in Minsk, including journalists. Several minors were detained in Svetlogorsk.
In Minsk, during the dispersal of protesters, the security forces used noise grenades, and also fired rubber bullets into the air. The center of the capital was blocked, the march of the protesters took place along Partizansky Avenue.
The protests in the country have not subsided since August 9. The demands of the protesters remain the same: a review of the presidential election results, the release of political prisoners and an investigation of cases of violence by law enforcement officials against protesters. In just two months, almost 11 thousand protesters were detained, more than 800 people were injured, 4 people were killed.
