A “live” vaccine against coronavirus, which was developed at the Moscow Center named after M.P. Chumakov, has been undergoing trials for three days. The first interim results were announced by the general director of the center, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Aydar Ishmukhametov, TASS reports.
According to him, the Russian volunteers did not have any adverse events other than pain at the injection site.
Earlier, Ishmukhametov indicated that this vaccine contains a whole virus, and such drugs are considered classics. “This is 300 years of experience with vaccinology, and this is 99 percent of the vaccines in the world,” he said. The scientist also noted that such a vaccine with a whole virus is highly likely to provide immunity for decades.
Tests of the new drug will take place in Kirov, St. Petersburg and have already begun in Novosibirsk. It was reported that more than three thousand people will take part in them. After vaccination, volunteers are isolated in a hospital for 16 days. Clinical studies are scheduled to be completed in November this year.
