In Crimea, the former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was accused of lying and saw in his sympathy “crocodile tears.” This opinion was made on Sunday, February 28, by the head of the Crimean parliament’s committee on people’s diplomacy and interethnic relations, Yuri Gempel, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“Let Poroshenko not shed crocodile tears and keep his sympathy with him. Enough of organizing a political circus. It was the Kiev authorities who created the problems with water and electricity in violation of international rights, and Russia successfully solved them, ”he said.
Earlier, Poroshenko sympathized with the Crimeans, whom, according to him, the Russian authorities had deceived. The former Ukrainian leader said he felt sorry for the residents of the peninsula because of the problems with water and electricity. In his opinion, Moscow was unable to raise the standard of living in Crimea and ensure the influx of tourists. The annexation of the peninsula to Russia did not bring “manna from heaven” to the Crimeans, Poroshenko pointed out.
Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the region’s residents who voted supported such a decision. Ukraine, the EU countries and the US refused to recognize the results of the vote, calling the reunification of the peninsula with mainland Russia an annexation. The Russian authorities reject these allegations and insist that the accession procedure was in accordance with international law.
