Police disperse protesters in Minsk. The media reported the use of noise grenades against protesters. As the police in Minsk later said, the security forces fired rubber bullets into the air several times during the dispersal of the protesters, as the demonstrators threw stones at them. The human rights center Viasna reported 30 detainees, including journalists.
Initially, the protesters walked along Partizanskiy Prospekt towards the center until they encountered a police blockade in the area of ​​the Belarus department store. After a partial dispersal of the protesters, the column moved along Partizansky Prospect in the opposite direction. Some of the marchers chant “Get out!” According to media estimates, there are tens of thousands of people in the convoy.
Before the start of the action, special equipment and military men were pulled to the city center. On Independence Square there are security forces, police are on duty around the perimeter, the square itself is fenced, the passage to it is blocked.
Similar protest actions are also taking place in Brest, Gomel, Vitebsk, Svetlogorsk. In some cities, actions are accompanied by detentions. Today, October 18, is the 71st day of protests in Belarus.
The protests in the country have not subsided since August 9. The demands of the protesters remain the same: a review of the presidential election results, the release of political prisoners and an investigation of cases of violence by law enforcement officials against protesters. In just two months, almost 11 thousand protesters were detained, more than 800 people were injured, 4 people were killed.
