Nagorno-Karabakh may turn to Armenia with a request to recognize the independence of the unrecognized republic, if Azerbaijan does not take steps for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the near future. President of Nagorno-Karabakh Arayik Harutyunyan stated this, the Novosti-Armenia portal reports.
“If in the next one or two days we do not see Azerbaijan’s readiness for a peaceful solution of the issue, then I will appeal first of all to the Armenian authorities [with a proposal] to recognize the independence of Artsakh (the historical name of Nagorno-Karabakh. – RBK), to international organizations and all countries “, – said Harutyunyan.
At the same time, he noted that this will help to understand which countries respect human rights and the right of nations to self-determination, and which ones contribute to terrorism.
“Since those countries that assist Azerbaijan, contribute to international terrorism, it is necessary to draw up a list so that the people of these countries are aware of the actions of their authorities, which will have to answer before God,” the President said.
Armenia has repeatedly stated that Turkey is on the side of Azerbaijan in the war over Nagorno-Karabakh. In Yerevan, it was argued that Ankara was sending military advisers, aircraft, drones and mercenaries to help Baku.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that Turkey is ready to support Azerbaijan both at the negotiating table and on the battlefield. However, both Ankara and Baku deny Turkey’s actual involvement in the conflict.
In an interview with RBC, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated that Turkey’s role in the current conflict is “extremely positive” and noted that the country should play an even greater role in the settlement process.
Turkey, like Azerbaijan, views the actions of Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh as the occupation of territories originally belonging to Baku. In Yerevan, in turn, they believe that the actions of Azerbaijan and Turkey are directed against the Armenian people and pursue the goal of its destruction.
The escalation of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh began on September 27. Armenia and Azerbaijan blame each other for the start of hostilities. The sides are striking, we know about the losses in the personnel of both armies. Now in Nagorno-Karabakh there is a ceasefire regime, however, both Yerevan and Baku claim that the enemy has violated it.
