The arms embargo against Iran will end on October 18. This was stated by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, RIA Novosti reports.
The department noted that now the country can sell and buy weapons. The statement also states that the restrictions on entry into the territory of UN member states and transit through them, previously introduced against a number of Iranian civil and military officials, have ceased to operate.
“Today is a significant day for the international community, which, despite the efforts of the United States, defended UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” the ministry said.
Resolution 2231, which was adopted in 2015, contains a mechanism for the automatic renewal of UN sanctions against Iran if the country does not fulfill its obligations under the JCPOA.
The United States has repeatedly demanded to extend the ban on arms supplies to Iran, which expired on October 18, 2020, in accordance with the terms of Tehran’s so-called nuclear deal with the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany. At the same time, in 2018, the American side announced its withdrawal from this agreement and threatened Iran with additional sanctions.
