MINSK, October 18. / TASS /. Security officials during a protest in Minsk fired rubber bullets into the air several times after the demonstrators started throwing stones in their direction, Roman Lashkevich, spokesman for the press service of the Minsk city police department, told TASS on Sunday.
“I confirm that today several warning shots were fired into the air with rubber bullets, after an aggressive crowd threw stones at service vehicles and law enforcement officials,” he said.
The representative of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate did not confirm the use of special means to disperse the protesters on Partizansky Prospekt, while eyewitnesses previously reported that they heard pops similar to the sounds of explosions of stun grenades.
On the eve of the next rally of the Belarusian opposition, which is scheduled for Sunday, under the name “Partisan March”, the center of Minsk was taken under increased control of the security forces. The security forces blocked the path of the demonstrators on Partizansky Prospekt, in particular with the help of special equipment. As a result, the column turned around and headed back to the center of Minsk.
Currently, protesters are walking along Rokossovsky Avenue in the Serebryanka area and report that security forces have been transferred there.
Another opposition rally called “Partisan March” is being held in the Belarusian capital on Sunday. A column of several thousand people followed along Partizansky Prospekt towards the Minsk ring road in order to attract the attention of workers of large capital factories that are located along the route. The GUVD of the Minsk City Executive Committee reported on several arrests of participants in the unauthorized action.
