A protest rally in Moscow on January 31 in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny ended, his headquarters said in a statement. Protest actions have also ended in other cities of Russia, including St. Petersburg.
“The procession that took place in Moscow today is unique. We took into account the experience of previous actions and this time we acted in a coordinated manner, it gave a result. We marched in huge columns through the city center, reached the most guarded pre-trial detention center in Moscow and demanded the release of Alexey Navalny. We are sure that he heard us, ”the headquarters said. The team of the politician noted that it will take time for all the participants of the action to disperse calmly.
According to OVD-Info, more than 1,000 people were detained during protests in Moscow, and over 700 people in St. Petersburg. The total number of detainees in all cities where people went to rallies exceeded 3.6 thousand people.
The previous protest action took place on 23 January. Then more than 4 thousand people were detained, more than 20 criminal cases were opened.
