Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina answered Norwegian journalists who called Russian biathletes scammers. Her words are quoted by Sport-Express.
Rodnina considered such statements unacceptable, but noted that the Russian side itself had reached a similar situation. She drew attention to the fact that since 2016 in Russia there has been a law on prosecuting those who incline to the use of doping, but it is used very rarely. “The sanctions are on all fronts. But sometimes you don’t have to substitute yourself, ”the deputy summed up.
On February 22, the Norwegian journalist Esten Seter called the Russian biathletes scammers, pointing out that the team’s recent failures show a cleansing of the sport. According to the journalist, the Russians used to win thanks to doping, but now tight control does not allow them to take illegal drugs.
At the world championship that ended in Slovenian Pokljuka, Russian biathletes won one medal: on February 20, the men’s team took third place in the relay.
