Roskomnadzor said that the Twitter microblogging service maliciously violates Russian law. The service reported that since 2017, the social network has not removed 2,862 materials with prohibited information on methods of committing suicide and calls for them, as well as on methods of making and using drugs.
“In total, with regard to information recognized as prohibited, Roskomnadzor sent to Twitter more than 28 thousand requests for removal,” the message says.
Roskomnadzor warned that, according to Art. 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, for violation there is a fine in the amount of 800 thousand to 8 million rubles. In the event of a repeated violation, the fine will increase to 1/5 of the aggregate amount of the company’s annual revenue.
Twitter and other social networks have repeatedly received claims from Roskomnadzor. In particular, in February, the department demanded to remove calls for the participation of minors in rallies. Roskomnadzor has identified about 2.5 thousand videos with such content.
