Scientists have named a factor that doubles the risk of death from COVID-19

Kidney disease more than doubles the risk of death from coronavirus infection. This was reported by scientists from the UK, who published the results of their research in the journal Anesthesia.
Experts studied the data of 372 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit of four hospitals in London and Birmingham from March 10 to July 23.
216 patients had chronic or infection-related kidney problems. Of these, 107 people died (50%). Of the remaining 156 patients without kidney problems, 32 people (21%) died.
The researchers hypothesized that the likelihood of death is related to the effect of the virus on the body as a whole, the use of toxic agents in treating the infection, and the “cross-link” between the lungs and kidneys.
Earlier, scientists at the University of Liverpool reported that sequential flu and coronavirus disease also significantly increases the risk of death. They carried out their experiment on mice: they infected one group of animals with coronavirus, and the second, sequentially with influenza and COVID-19. As a result, the course of the disease in the second group was more severe.
