Tehran calls lifting of arms embargo on Iran a serious defeat for the United States

TEHERAN, October 18. / TASS /. The lifting of the arms embargo against Tehran was a serious setback for the United States. This was stated on Sunday by the chairman of the parliament (Mejlis) of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
“This was undoubtedly a major setback for the United States. A failure for the arrogant but weak and isolated American government,” ISNA quoted him as saying. The chairman of the Mejlis added that “the world community has opposed the illegal actions of the United States.”
The embargo on supplies to Iran, as well as exports from that country, of conventional weapons expired on Sunday. On this day, exactly five years have passed since the entry into force of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to resolve the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 adopted in support of it, which established the appropriate time limit.
The United States has been opposed to lifting the arms embargo on Iran over the past few months. On September 21, Washington imposed sanctions on arms sales to Tehran at the national level. US leader Donald Trump signed a decree on restrictive measures against those who will be involved in the supply of Iran with “nuclear technology, technology [production] of ballistic missiles and conventional weapons.”
