Telegram considered the “Trump channel” fraudulent

The Telegram messenger has marked the Donald J. Trump channel, created immediately after the blocking of US President Donald Trump on Twitter, as fraudulent. A corresponding warning appeared in the community description.

It is indicated that many users have complained about this channel. “Please, be careful, especially if you are asked for money,” the company warned. Also, a red “scam” icon appeared next to the account name. Currently, more than half a million people have subscribed to the resource.

The channel was announced on January 9th. Then more than 278.9 thousand people subscribed to it. Later, a link to a fraudulent service was published on the channel.

On January 12, Telegram became the second most downloaded app in the United States. The growth in popularity is associated with the blocking of Trump’s social media accounts and the shutdown of the social network Parler, popular among the supporters of the US President. Another reason is the change in the privacy policy of the WhatsApp messenger.

On January 7, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that Trump would be left without the social network until the end of his presidential term. On January 9, Twitter indefinitely blocked his account due to “the risk of further incitement to violence.” In addition, the management of the microblogging service promised to block the account of any user who gave the floor to the US President.

The blocking of channels of communication used by Trump supporters began after the uprising they staged on January 6. They broke into the Capitol Building and surrounded the Senate Hall. The Senate and the House of Representatives had to interrupt the meeting at which it was planned to approve the results of the electoral college vote. As a result of the protest, five people died.
