The Basmanny Court of Moscow has extended until February 28 the ban on certain actions of the auditor of the Accounts Chamber and the former governor of the Ivanovo region, Mikhail Menu. An ex-official detained in November 2020 is accused of embezzling 700 million rubles. from the budget of the Ivanovo region in 2011.
“The court granted the request of the investigation and extended the measure of restraint for Menu,” the press service of the court said. Mr. Menu is forbidden to leave the place of actual residence, with the exception of two-hour walks, communicate with a certain circle of people, send and receive mail and use the Internet.
As his lawyer Murad Musaev clarified to TASS, the investigative actions in the case have been completed, the ex-governor has begun to familiarize himself with the case. Mr. Musaev also said that shortly before the extension of the preventive measure, the accused had contracted the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Mikhail I was detained on November 18, after the Federation Council granted the request of the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov to give his consent to bring Mr. Me to criminal responsibility. He does not admit his guilt in embezzlement (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
