The doctor explained the difference in mortality from heart disease in Russia and Europe

Russians are twice as likely to die from heart disease compared to Europeans, which is due to their greater discipline and a serious attitude to therapy and any doctor’s recommendations. The chief specialist in therapy of the Privolzhsky District Medical Center, cardiologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Igor Fomin spoke about this in an interview with Lente.ru.
He noted that in addition to this, a whole complex of reasons affects the large difference in mortality in Russia and Europe. Among them is the fact that Europeans manage to maintain their health longer. “The body of a 70-year-old European is more preserved than that of a 50-year-old Russian,” Fomin said.
According to him, in Europe it is difficult to find a person who would boast that he consumes alcohol, smokes and does not play sports. In addition, Europeans do not skip taking medications if prescribed by a doctor.
“If a person is prescribed drugs, then he must take them clearly every day, without any interruptions. A person who takes medications and controls blood pressure within normal limits reduces the risk of death, ”Fomin said. The doctor is sure that if treatment is neglected, the risk of becoming disabled or dying doubles, so now the medical community does not even discuss the need to take pills.
Earlier, the chief freelance cardiologist of the Ministry of Health Yevgeny Shlyakhto warned the Russians about a possible deterioration in health due to the prolonged coronavirus pandemic. The most vulnerable, he said, will be those with coronary artery disease and heart failure.
