The founder of the “Shadow” theater Ilya Epelbaum died of complications after coronavirus

MOSCOW, October 18. / TASS /. The founder of the Moscow theater “Shadow” Ilya Epelbaum died on Sunday at the age of 60. The director was sick with a coronavirus infection, poet Lev Rubinstein told TASS.
“He died this afternoon. He was sick quite seriously. This is the same coronavirus. He had difficult concomitant circumstances,” said the poet.
Rubinstein added that the date of the farewell and funeral will be known later.
Ilya Epelbaum was born on July 21, 1961. Graduated from the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art. S.G. Stroganov. In 1988, together with Maya Krasnopolskaya, he founded the Shadow and Puppet Theater in Moscow. Together with Krasnopolskaya, he staged the performances The Magic Pipe, The Tale Without a Name, The Legend of Tem-Line, The Nutcracker, Ballet of Paper Shadows, Red Riding Holes, Home Theater, Metamorphoses, Hamlet for kids “and others. Multiple winner of the Golden Mask Prize.
