Czech President Milos Zeman criticized Alexei Navalny (he is the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation – FBK, included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent) for his nationalist views. He stated this on the air of the radio station Frekvence 1.
According to the Czech leader, the Russian opposition leader supported the “annexation” of Crimea and Stalin’s deportations, for example, of Chechens, and also participated in a number of nationalist marches. “So who is this fighter for democracy? I think this is a Russian nationalist. I have nothing against this. But he should not have pretended to be one of those politicians who are against the regime of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. He is only only against Putin, ”Zeman explained.
The head of state stressed that these concepts make “a damn big difference.” He added that he considers the situation with the Navalny booth.
In September 2020, Zeman was surprised at attempts by Western countries to link the construction of Nord Stream 2 with the poisoning of Navalny. According to him, this incident has nothing in common with the gas pipeline. “Germany and Russia have agreed on its construction, it is in the interests of both countries,” he said. Zeman also noted that what happened should be carefully explained.
Navalny was detained at Sheremetyevo airport on January 17. This happened on the basis of the decision of the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service in Moscow, according to which the oppositionist was put on the wanted list for systematic violations of the conditions of the probationary period. On January 18, he was arrested for 30 days.
Before his arrest, he was in Berlin, where he was taken on August 22, 2020. Two days earlier, during the flight from Tomsk to Moscow, Navalny felt unwell, the plane was urgently landed in Omsk. Foreign doctors said they found traces of a substance from the Novichok group in Navalny’s body. At the same time, Russian doctors who also conducted research did not find any poisons.
