The Sverdlovsk Ombudsman will check information on forced sterilization in the boarding house

EKATERINBURG, October 18. / TASS /. The office of the ombudsman for human rights in the Sverdlovsk region began checking after information appeared about the violation of women’s rights in the “Uktussky boarding house” for the disabled and the elderly in Yekaterinburg. Regional Ombudsman Tatyana Merzlyakova told TASS about this.
Earlier, a video appeared on social networks in which a woman, presumably a patient of a boarding house, talks about cases of forced sterilization in the institution.
“Before, there were complaints that medical sterilization was indicated. The family was, they complained. We knew that they were being convinced. It was, but no violent cases were confirmed to us. We started checking,” she said and added that the boarding house the necessary documents will be requested.
The Ministry of Social Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region also organized an inspection of the “Uktussky boarding house” after information appeared about the violation of women’s rights in it. The press service of the ministry noted that the certificate shown in the video was dated 2008, and also added that no complaints or appeals from the clients of the boarding house had been received on this topic.
