Ukrainian universities will temporarily work in a remote format due to the increase in the number of infections with the coronavirus COVID-19, said the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Nation Health Mikhail Radutsky in his Telegram channel. This decision was made during the last meeting with the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to him, this decision was fully supported by the heads of educational institutions. “Unfortunately, there are already several outbreaks of infection of employees and students, as well as deaths. The MP pointed out the need to conduct an information campaign among students. According to him, young people should understand that now it is better to limit the number of contacts and minimize their stay in crowded places. “The life of their parents and grandparents is also their responsibility,” the politician said.
Radutsky said that senior students of medical universities will be involved in working with COVID-19 patients in infectious diseases departments. He expressed confidence that under the supervision of experienced doctors, young specialists will be able to provide qualified assistance.
The People’s Deputy also stressed that the authorities recommend that schools start the autumn holidays earlier, October 15 is considered the optimal date. In this case, the final decision on this issue remains with the local authorities.
As noted by Radutsky, there are record rates in the number of cases in the world. Ukraine, he said, is no exception, here the pandemic is gaining momentum, but the situation is quite controllable. “The authorities keep their finger on the pulse,” he said.
According to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, as of October 11, 261,034 people were infected with the coronavirus in the country, of which 113,507 recovered, 4972 died.
According to the American Johns Hopkins University, more than 37 million people have become ill with coronavirus in the world. The most difficult situation is observed in the United States (7.7 million infected), India (7 million) and Brazil (5 million). Ukraine is in 25th place in the world in terms of the number of cases.
