The microblogging service Twitter has blocked 100 accounts, which, according to the administration of the social network, are connected with Russia, according to the company’s blog.
The statement says that it is about two groups of accounts. The first consists of 69 accounts that are associated with the Russian authorities. With their help, there was activity aimed at “weakening the stability and reliability of NATO,” the company said. The second group includes 31 accounts, presumably linked to the Russian Internet Research Agency. These accounts allegedly conducted activities directed against the US and the EU.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow will study the grounds for blocking accounts. “We will deal with the grounds for blocking and give an expert opinion,” – quotes the words of Mrs. Zakharova TASS. She also stated that the wording indicated by Twitter could include “millions of users.” “Even the resources of Navalny’s associates – they certainly influence the US and the EU, given the speed at which anti-Russian sanctions are being stamped there at the request of” agents of influence, “she said.
Also today, 238 accounts were removed from Iran that intervened in the debate regarding the first televised debate of the US presidential candidates in 2020. Another 35 accounts associated with the Armenian authorities were deleted – their activities, according to the social network, were directed against Azerbaijan.
We will remind, on February 12, Twitter blocked the official account of the Russian delegation at the talks in Vienna on military security and arms control. The head of the delegation, Konstantin Gavrilov, suggested that the reason could be Russia’s position on the situation in Europe. The account was later unblocked.
