US intelligence officials have identified possible sources of threat to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to the New York Times.
It is noted that American intelligence is concerned about threats from armed groups and racist extremists.
It also states that intelligence warned that the January 6 riots in the Capitol will become “a significant driving force of violence for armed militias and racist extremists who are aiming at the inauguration.”
Earlier, the US National Guard prepared for the possibility of using improvised explosive devices by attackers ahead of Biden’s inauguration. Law enforcement officials believe that the explosive devices planted last week during the riots were not isolated incidents. The National Guardsmen were also informed that the protesters may be well armed. In this regard, Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy allowed the National Guardsmen guarding the Capitol to carry deadly weapons.
The storming of the Capitol in the United States took place on January 6 during a rally of supporters of the current head of state, who do not recognize the results of the November vote, which resulted in Biden being elected president. The rallies led to clashes with the police. Five people died, dozens were detained.
